SKINKS





Skinks
Lifespan: 8-10 years (blue tongue skinks and monkey tailed skinks can live more than 20 years)

Housing: 20-gallon aquarium (40-55 gallon for larger skinks). You should also purchase a locking screen top lid.

Substrate: Mulch, bark or soil.                           

Hides: a couple of sturdy hiding spots should be provided for skinks, which like to burrow and hide.

Heat: 95°
Cool:
70°
Lighting: UV / UVB lighting (10-12 hours)
Heat: Infrared Heat Lamp (24 hour heat source)

Water: provide a large shallow sturdy water dish. Skinks like to bathe in their water.

** Powder their greens and bugs in Calcium Vitamin D3 before serving
** 60% vegetable/fruits
** 40% meat items

Feed: 3-4 times a week

Vegetables/fruits: beans, squash, carrots, parsnips, leafy greens. Can be shredded or pureed and added to meat portion of diet. Fruits can include strawberries, bananas, melon.

Meats:  items such as crickets, superworms. For Large Skinks (Blue Tongued Skinks) low fat canned dog food is a good staple in the diet. This should be supplemented with other items such as superworms and pinkie mice.
